In today’s highly technology-based world, kids have access to more technology than many of us did when we were young. Child psychologists say that this can be a big problem if children are given the opportunity of having outdoor play.

There are many benefits of outdoor play and these benefits can start at a very young age. Sunshine- while too much exposure to the sun can increase the risk of skin cancer, the body does need sunlight to make vitamin D. Vitamin D plays an important role in everything from bone development to boosting our immune system and mood.

Socialisation- children need to be able to interact and socialise with other children. When playing outside, they learn how to work together, how to make friends, how to share and cooperate, and how to treat others with respect.

Exercise- to stay physically and mentally healthy, our bodies need exercise. Children and parents can find many ways to get in some daily exercise while playing outside. From playing ball to riding bicycles, exercising outside will make us feel healthier and more energised.

Appreciate Nature- when children spend time outside playing with friends and family, they will learn a deep-seated appreciation for nature. Let them walk in the woods and play in the dirt. Give them the opportunity to see new animals and learn everything they can about the world outside. And the best way to do that is by playing outside with mum and dad, siblings, and friends.
