This guy’s 258 square foot apartment is better than my house.
I am fascinated with the small house movement. There is just something about well-designed small living spaces that makes me want one! I could never imagine a way to make 258 square feet into anything but a fantastic closet, but designer Barbara Appolooni found a way to make it into a luxurious apartment equipped with a bathroom, kitchen, closet, bed, and balcony.
When Christian Schallert isn’t cooking, dressing, sleeping or eating, his 258 square feet apartment looks like an empty cube. To use a piece of furniture, he has to build it.
Located in Barcelona’s hip Born district, the tiny apartment is a remodeled pigeon loft. Christian says its design was inspired by the space-saving furniture aboard boats, as well as the clean lines of a small Japanese home.
The apartment is pretty fantastic, no? I was especially impressed with the glass shower and sink. It’s nice that he didn’t have to sacrifice function. I thought the eating space was especially creative. The neighborhood in Barcelona is expensive and I’m sure it’s hard to find affordable real estate. With that view, I bet he’s living large for a lot cheaper than most people buying in that area.

The patio and roof area are the only things that would make this liveable for me otherwise I would go crazy in such a small space.

Were I single this would be amazing. As of now I think it would be cramped with a boyfriend and a terrier. I think the dog would be the first to lose her mind in that kind of space!

I would imagine, living that way would require a bit of “planning ahead.” By the look of it, he didn’t have anything in his fridge except drinks. He probably has to head to the store everyday for his meals.

The common trade-off for these types of living spaces is COMFORT! In neither video is there a seating area that I would enjoy spending more than 10 minutes sitting on. These apartments are fine as a place to keep your stuff, but they fall far short of being a “home”.

I like the idea, however the apartment isn’t 258 sq ft, as that would be quite larger. As Christian said in the video, it’s 24 sq meters, which is almost 79sq ft :)

i would totally live there. that balcony, the roof, and the view make it totally worth it. without those elements this place would suck. the only problem is i don’t know where i’d put my bike(s).

exactly…with the patio and roof you have a hit…if it were just the apartment itself, i would constantly look for another place to live…
